In Muscatine on Monday, March 23, 1953, Dale wrote, “In Bellevue Hospital for X-rays and traction on my legs. Helen came in the afternoon. Legs hurt after coming back upstairs from X-ray and again after Helen left in the evening.” His body seems to be rebelling against that new Post of Duty in St. Paul.
